Director General of Police Anurag Sarma has said that he will submit proposals to the State government seeking allotment of 1,525 police personnel to provide round-the-clock security at the Metro Rail stations at a cost of Rs 54 crore. He said he had proposed three Metro Rail police stations, one each at Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station, Jubilee Bus station and Panjagutta, at the rate of one police station for every 22 Metro Rail stations.
Each Metro Rail station would be put under the charge of one head constable and four constables, including a woman constable. One sub-inspector would be appointed for every two Metro Rail stations. Two DCPs and two ACPs would be part of the metro rail security system. At a high-level meeting held at the DGP office he reviewed security arrangements to prevent crime and maintaining law and order in Metro Rail stations and to prevent possible sabotage by terrorists to the railway stations and tracks.
Scanning of travelers’ baggage and luggage, security at entrance and exit points, installation of CCTV cameras at the railway stations and in the compartments, sniffer dog squad deployment and funds needed to provide security and other relevant issues figured at the meeting.
Principal secretary for Home, Rajeev Trivedi, senior police officials Tejdeep Kaur Menon, Sudeep Laktakia, Gopikrishna, Krishna Prasad, Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissioners Mahender Reddy and C V Anand, L&T chief executive officer and Managing Director V B Gadgil, Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing director N V S Reddy, policy system head Anil Kumar Shiny, project control head KM Manoj, security chief Brigadier Sampat Rao Patel and DGM security Captain Ravinder Reddy attended the meeting.
