The survey to study the installation and feasibility of CCTV cameras in Nashik has finally begun. Sachin Gore, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), said that two people reached Nashik to take up the task of surveying the feasibility and locations where the proposed cameras need to be installed. The number and kind of cameras, the angles with which they will be fitted along with other technical details will be studied by the professionals with the police officials from each police station,” he added. Gore said that the survey started with Panchavati police station and all the police stations would be covered in the next couple of days. It may be noted that a report of the survey would be prepared based on which funds would be sanctioned at state government level after which, the tenders for the work would be floated.
The consultant for installation of close circuit television (CCTV) across the city was finalised in June in the backdrop of a proposal sent by the police commissionerate explaining the requirement of CCTV camera surveillance.
The state government had given the IT department the nod to check the scope of work involved in installing CCTV cameras across the city. The proposal included the requirement of around 700 camera units to cover important areas in Nashik besides the 378 cameras that were already installed during the Kumbh.
