Gurgaon Police is set to launch five police control room (PCR) vans, funded by a private organization, under its community policing initiative. Apart from the vans, the ex-servicemen, who have been hired as the PCR van drivers, along with two private security guards will also be paid from the community policing funds, promised by the private group, NASSCOM. Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk said that the initiative has received a good response not just from corporate groups, who have committed to fund the PCR van project for the next five years, but also from RWAs. He said the trial run for the PCR vans was over and Y P Singhal, DGP, Haryana, would officially launch the project.
The PCR van will have a staff of four including the driver. “The driver and two security guards will be paid by NASSCOM while a police constable will accompany them,” he said. He said the department has prescribed a uniform for these private staff members. These PCR vans and staff members will act as a force multiplier for the department, Virk said.
The objective is to tighten security in the city, particularly in IT and industrial hubs that have witnessed labour unrest in the past. Each PCR van will be equipped with the latest technology such as GPS and voice transmission. A parallel monitoring room will also be set up for the ‘community’ PCR vans. Residents can call up the regular PCR on 100 and the ‘community’ PCRs will be informed and rushed to the spot.
