Inspector General of Sindh Police, AD Khawaja, convened a session to oversee the availability and existing condition of CCTV cameras in the city. It was decided to install cameras at more than 200 specific spots in the city for which 1000 cameras of ten megapixels would be purchased. The IG ordered for a feasibility report to be submitted to him.
Which areas have extensive coverage, and which major roads and thoroughfares do not have adequate coverage, was also discussed. IG Khawaja also ordered that there will be strict vigilance and monitoring of the city on Eid-ul-Fitr. He added that 7000 more CCTV cameras would be required and several proposals for them were being requested for approval by the government of Sindh.
He has also called for foolproof security on the occasion of `Juma tul Wida’ (last Friday of Ramazan). He directed that extra-ordinary security measures must be ensured for main congregations, mosques, Imambaras, open places, at the levels of ranges, zones and districts. IG Khawaja instructed that under the Ramzan-ul-Mubarak contingency plan, the surveillance, advance intelligence collection and sharing should be made more effective and coordinated and it must be ensured that there is no untoward incident. All the supervisory staff was directed to ensure security steps under their guidance.
