The Noida development authority has begun the process to hire a consultant for the ‘Safe City’ project that will involve installation of hundreds of surveillance cameras and setting up an SOS mechanism across Noida. Officials said the consultant, once finalised, will have to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) and other documents within six months.
The Safe City project, an initiative of the central government, aims to create a safe and secure environment for women and children in public places besides curbing crimes against them.
“Noida police have identified more than 450 spots in the city, mainly near markets, schools, colleges, malls, metro and other crowded public places where CCTV cameras are required. The budget of the project is estimated to be around Rs 82 crore. But the final estimate will be prepared by the consultant,” said Rajesh Kumar, Authority’s deputy general manager.
He added that the Authority has issued a request for proposal for the same.
The surveillance cameras will not be part of the Integrated Security and Traffic Management System (ISTMS) project. “These cameras will be equipped with facial recognition features and will be able to record vehicle registration numbers,” an official said.
Under the project, an SOS system will also be installed to assist people in cases of emergency. The consultant’s scope of work will further include the identification of sites for setting up of a control and command centre, listing possible locations for cameras after consultation with police, and identifying what kind of cameras (PTZ, bullet, box) are suitable for specific areas.
According to the Authority’s request for proposal (RFP), mino-control rooms equipped with surveillance footage will be set up and connected with the main command centre. The consultant will have to help the Authority procure licences for the video management system depending on the number of cameras that are finalised for installation. VMS is an application that processes camera feed and generates information.
