New TSA data shows a record number of firearms were discovered at airport checkpoints last year. More than 4,200 guns were found at 249 airports nationwide. That is a seven percent increase since 2017. More than 86 percent of them were loaded.
The TSA is working with airports to improve signage reminding people that guns cannot be in a carry-on. Getting through airport security without problems takes planning. “It’s important that you declare that weapon, that it’s properly packaged and that you make the airline agents aware that you have that firearm,” said Clinton Torp, La Crosse Regional Airport Director. People that attempt to take a gun through security are at risk of being arrested and fined up to $13,000
