NEC‘s biometrics division has rebranded. The company arm formerly known as NEC Biometrics Solutions is now called NEC Advanced Recognition Systems. While the new name speaks to sophisticated computer vision more broadly, the organization appears set to maintain its focus on biometrics, noting in a statement announcing the rebrand that the global biometrics market is “now estimated to exceed $20 billion (USD) over the coming decade”. The organization will also continue to primarily target the government security market with its solutions.
The new name arrives along with a new slogan, “People, Patterns and Predictions” – a collection of keywords that “crystallizes our new mission and aligns with our new solutions and services,” comments NEC Advanced Recognition Systems SVP Raffie Beroukhim.
The rebrand comes soon after NEC’s announcement that its NeoFace Welcome and NeoFace Watch facial recognition solutions are coming to its UNIVERGE Communications platforms.
