Nashik police would be submitting a revised proposal to get CCTV cover in the city after the state government sought clarification on the one that was put forward earlier. The police department plans to install 750 cameras across the municipal limits. During his visit in November last year, Director General of Police, Pravin Dixit said the proposal sent by the Nashik police was being screened for financial feasibility, resulting in further delay in executing the project. After Mumbai and Pune, it is Nashik where the government plans to install CCTV cameras. Residents and police officials have long been demanding digital eye cover.
Commissioner of Police, S Jaganathan said there was some clarification sought by the government after it reviewed the proposal. “As pointed out by higher authorities, the lacunae in the proposal were filled and a fresh survey was carried out to ascertain the technical feasibility of the proposal. A committee was appointed at each police station level to conduct the survey and submit the information accordingly,” he said.
The Commissioner said the survey has been completed and a fresh proposal has been drafted, which would be submitted to the higher authorities this week. The city received temporary CCTV cover during the Kumbh Mela for crowd and traffic management. Minister Girish Mahajan had back then promised that the existing CCTV cover would be retained. However, due to administrative delay, the private company that installed the CCTVs, removed them in October. The cameras had helped in detecting a number of crimes like murder, thefts and missing persons.
