Mysuru Railway stations get AI powered surveillance

In a significant move to enhance security at railway stations and ensure passenger safety, South Western Railway (SWR) is modernising its security infrastructure through the phased implementation of an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) and an IP-Based Video Surveillance System (VSS) across 228 stations.

Shobhna Gupta, the Principal Chief Signal and Telecommunication Engineer at South Western Railway, said, “This project will involve the installation of 2,800 high-resolution cameras across platforms, aimed at drastically improving passenger safety, preventing crimes, and securing railway assets. The system will feature real-time monitoring capabilities and AI-powered analytics.”

The first major milestone of the initiative was achieved with the successful commissioning of the ICCC in Mysuru, which now serves as the central hub for overseeing security across the region. The ICCC integrates the monitoring of railway stations, enhancing coordination and enabling quicker decision-making during emergencies, she stated, adding that the initiative is aimed at enhancing passenger safety, crime prevention, and asset security through real-time monitoring and AI-powered analytics.

Currently, the system is actively monitoring eight key stations within the Mysuru Division, including Byadrahalli, Pandavapura, Srirangapatna, Naganahalli, Ashokapuram, Chamarajanagar, Nanjangud, and Kadakola. Plans are in place for the surveillance system to cover the remaining 64 stations in the Mysuru Division, with full implementation expected by April 2025.
