In a letter to the Chief Secretaries, Para-military Chief and DGs about the guidelines and protocols for Police Security Personnel (CAPFs) who have been managing the public during these times of COVID-19, the Home Ministry asked the Head of Police Forces (HoPFs) to consider the option of work from home for the personnel who have not been deployed on the frontline and wherever else is feasible.
The ministry has also suggested that a second line of defence should be kept ready to battle the virus on the frontline as scores of cops are now being infected in various parts of the country. “To meet the challenge of COVID-19, and to ensure sustainment of control strategy for COVID- 19, police forces need to prepare an effective second line of defence to make up for the police personnel who may be rendered ineffective due to COVID infection during the pandemic,” the home ministry said.
The MHA has also written to all Chief Secretaries of the Union Territories, States and DGs of prisons on the management of COVID-19 in the Indian prisons. The ministry has also issued guidelines and protocols which may be followed while dealing with persons arrested/detained and those in prisons and correctional homes.
