Police commissioner Sandeep Patil said that the police department will conduct a special drive to install CCTV cameras in commercial buildings in the city for the purpose of better security. Sandeep Patil was speaking during the police phone-in programme on May 17.
Sandeep Patil further said, “As per Karnataka Public Safety Act, CCTV camera has to be compulsorily installed in the commercial buildings. We have conducted a meeting with regard to the installation of CCTV cameras in commercial spaces in the city. We have also ordered all the police stations to conduct a special drive to ensure that all the commercial buildings have CCTV cameras installed,”
“As many as 950 CCTV cameras are already installed in the city. We want to raise the number to 4,000 and want every street and commercial space to be covered with CCTV cameras,” added Sandeep Patil. He further said, “There are many places in the city like Hampankatta and Falnir, where there are huge crowds. We want such areas to be covered with CCTV. At least two CCTV cameras have to be installed, one facing inside and the other facing the outside. Police will identify the places where CCTV has to be installed. Notice will be given to install CCTV to the concerned commercial building authority. If they fail to install the same within one month of issuing of the notice, heavy fine will be imposed.”
Meanwhile, Sandeep Patil symbolically handed over respiratory masks to the traffic police personnel. As many as 1500 respiratory masks will be distributed to the police personnel.
Traffic violations dominated the police phone-in programme. In addition, issues like painting the road humps at Suratkal, fast food shops pouring oil on the roads at Bejai and petty shops selling cigarettes were also brought to the notice of the police department.
As many as 30 calls were received during the programme. DCP Law and Order Hanumantharaya and DCP Crime and Traffic Laxmi Ganesh and others were present. The phone-in programme is held every Friday from 10 am to 11 am, during which callers may call on 0824-2220530 or 0824-2220201 to directly express their grievances to the Police Commissioner.
