KSRTC to start e-ticketing, buses to have security cams

Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will have surveillance cameras to monitor the drivers and detect traffic violations, a passenger information system (PIS) and Android-based ticketing machines on buses. The project is being implemented in association with Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Limited (SCTL).

In addition, the PIS inside the buses will provide information about the next bus station, the time required to reach a particular bus stop, etc. The PIS will be built with display screens (LED TV) and will also have an announcement system. SCTL has invited tenders from firms for implementing the project. The location of the project will be the pan-city area in the capital under the smart city project.

As per the project document, the key objective is to have an upgraded Android-based electronic ticketing system on selected buses in Trivandrum city, where surveillance security will be enhanced by fixing IP cameras inside the buses.

The PIS and the intelligent transport management system have been included as part of the integrated command and control centre (ICCC) project for KSRTC. Later, KSRTC put forward additional requirements like the PIS inside the buses, the surveillance system for buses and selected depots, the ticketing system with central application and separate power unit system inside the buses.

The Android-based Electronic Ticketing Machine (ETM) will have multiple payment options such as smart card payment/wallet payment/travel card/cash, etc. The proposed open loop ETM ticketing system will be integrated into KSRTC’s existing financial application for proper accounting.
