Smiths Detection wins Nicaragua customs order

Smiths Detection, through its partner Alvimer International, has won a contract to supply Nicaraguan Customs with several mobile inspection and X-ray inspection systems. The award, including technical support and a multi-year warranty, supports plans to modernise and optimise security checks at ports and border crossings in the Central American country.

Smiths Detection will supply its HCVM T, which is easily moved on any road and site to site, provides flexibility and utilisation across the region. It allows inspection of whole trucks, containers and vehicles. Along with the HCVM T, a sophisticated dataset management system (DMS) will allow the integration and remote, centralised supervision of the operations at each HCVM T site.

The Hi-Scan 180180, also part of the award, is specially designed to meet the needs and applications of airports, customs facilities, transportation operations, carriers, parcel services where the inspection of large pallets and freight container is required.

Eduardo Parodi, Vice President, LAC & US Regional Sales, Smiths Detection, said: “Our screening systems are designed to easily adapt to our customers’ needs while helping them optimise security checks at ports, airports, and border crossings. The combined solutions of the mobile and cargo inspection systems will help Nicaraguan customs officials meet the challenge of rapid detection without impeding daily flow of goods.”
