Several industrialists who own factories and workshops in the outer and north-west districts of the Capital have offered to extend public-private partnership to the police, which handles several security functions single-handedly at present. Joint Commissioner of Police (Northern Range) Sanjay Singh said during a recent meeting that industrialists from the two districts had volunteered to construct police booths, install CCTV cameras at vulnerable points, engage private security guards, arrange barricades, and light up dark stretches, etc.
“Several security aspects like installation of CCTV cameras, barricading, setting up police assistance booths/ pickets, and deployments of private security guards were also on the agenda,” said Mr. Singh.
In the past, several residents’ welfare associations have extended cooperation to the police, but this was largely confined to installing CCTV cameras. The initiative by factory owners in areas of Narela, Bawana, Mangolpuri, Samaypur Badli, Wazirpur Industrial Area, Rajasthan Udyog Nagar, Lawrence Road, Industrial Area GT Karnal Road, and Shakti Nagar, come after a review observed that the local police encountered several limitations vis-a-vis providing security in terms of resources.
