Gandhinagar to get 40 multifunctional streetlight poles

How would you like it if your streetlights could provide WiFi connectivity, weather and pollution monitoring along with a panic button to get in direct touch with the police? Gandhinagar will be dotted with these intelligent streetlights as part of the Smart City Project. These smart poles will be connected to a control room where officials from Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC), police and fire will be stationed to monitor the goings-on and traffic in the capital and respond to calls made by citizens.

GMC has already begun installation of these smart poles across the city. It plans to install 40 smart poles at strategic locations, each connected to the corporation building. Confirming the development, City Engineer B K Pandya said, “The poles will have features like automatic light, WiFi and LED screen. It will be connected to a control room that is being set up at the corporation building. Later, the control room will be shifted to the new fire brigade building that is under construction.” Gandhinagar was included in the Smart City Mission last year. Five poles have already been installed. The first pole, complete with installation of gadgets, was set up near CH3 Circle.
