214 CCTV cameras installed in Madurai district court premises

The Madurai District Court Complex has recently installed 214 CCTV cameras in its premises, similar to those at the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court. The CCTV cameras were installed at the main entrance, corridors along the court halls and inside court halls. An official said that metal detectors, both door frame and hand held detectors, were proposed along with cameras. However, installation of metal detectors would be taken up at a later stage.

“ELCOT has been assigned the work of supply and installation of CCTV cameras”, the court official said. The Supreme Court had directed the installation of CCTV cameras in district courts. The Madras High Court had asked the government to prepare an estimate for installing cameras. Thereafter the State government has sanctioned funds for installation of cameras on district courts across the State.
