Himachal Police boost surveillance capabilities with advanced drone training

Taking another step towards modernising law enforcement, the Himachal Pradesh Police successfully concluded a 10-day intensive drone operations training program, designed to enhance digital surveillance and operational efficiency. The training, held under the guidance of Director General of Police Dr. Atul Verma, IPS, reflects the department’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology into its policing strategies.

Despite challenges posed by inclement weather, including heavy rain and fog that necessitated a temporary relocation of the training to Kolar District in Sirmour, the program was completed successfully. The final demonstration, conducted at Police Lines Bharari in Shimla, highlighted the newly acquired skills of the trained officers.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Traffic, Tourist, and Railway, Gurdev Chand Sharma, IPS, presided over the closing ceremony. He stressed the vital role of drones in contemporary policing, emphasising their utility in various operational areas such as routine surveillance, crowd management, disaster response, and crime investigation. “The integration of drones into our operations is a significant step towards smarter policing, enabling us to respond swiftly and effectively to a range of situations,” said DIG Sharma.

Additional SP, Traffic, Tourist, and Railway, Narvir Singh Rathour, who served as the course coordinator, praised the dedication of the participants throughout the training. He also commended ASI Sandeep Chauhan of the 6th IRBn Nahan, District Sirmour, for his exceptional contribution as the course trainer, underscoring the importance of skilled personnel in maximising the benefits of drone technology.

Noteworthy, Drones are increasingly becoming a cornerstone of modern law enforcement, offering real-time surveillance capabilities that enhance crowd control, border security, and search and rescue operations. Their ability to gather and analyse data swiftly and accurately makes them invaluable in crime scene documentation and traffic management, ultimately reducing risks to personnel and operational costs. As the Indian drone industry continues to grow, the potential applications of drones in civil policing are set to expand, paving the way for more innovative and efficient law enforcement solutions.
