To keep a tab on petty crimes – snatching, theft, carjacking – Gurugram police has came up with a plan to utilise the resources of private security agencies. The department informed the security agencies about an intelligence information number (9354017145) – which will be monitored from the police commissioner’s office- on which the security guards, employed at different parts of the city, would be able to inform cops if they find anything suspicious or come across any crime incident in their area.
To make this move a success, the police department has already collected the mobile numbers of the security guards from their respective agencies and has asked the agencies to circulate the intelligence information number among the guards.
Commissioner of Police KK Rao said, “Private security guards would also get SMS alerts from the police department informing them about incidents in their neighbourhood to help them understand the crime pattern and also help cops in solving and checking crime in their area.”
Elaborating on the matter, Rao said a team will be formed to monitor the messages and calls received on the intelligence information number. The team will share the details with the concerned police station and the nearest Quick Reaction Team (QRT). Police is also going to share the number with RWAs so they can also provide information and updates to police.
“Not just security guards but any one can share information about illegal activities in their area through WhatsApp, SMS or call. People can also share pictures, videos and voice messages which will work as evidence,” said Subhash Boken, spokesperson of Gurugram police. According to a survey, there are 400 private security agencies in the city. The number of people employed as security guards is 30 times the strength of the Gurugram police.
