The 5th International Conference on Homeland Security – “Industry’s role in National Security” was organized by ASSOCHAM on August 16 and 17,2016 in New Delhi. Minister of State for Home Affairs, Government of India, Mr. Hansraj Gangaram Ahir was the chief guest at the event. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ahir said, “It is our Prime Minister’s dream to be able to indigenously source all the security requirements of the country. The government is supporting the companies which are into R&D, manufacturing and have their own technology base to develop security equipments.”
He also said that the Homeland Security conference was held at an opportune time just after the country celebrated its 70th Year of independence.
Dr. D R Kaarthikeyen, the Chairman of the ASSOCHAM Homeland Security Committee, highlighted the importance of national security, particularly in view of the worsening security situation around the world. He highlighted the need for recruiting the best personnel, investing in the right training and equipping them with the best gear.
During the discussion on public and private security partnership, Mr. Ashok Bajpai, Managing Director, G4S said, “We are in alignment with the Government’s vision for the Private Security Sector and strongly believe that we have a common purpose of securing the country, for which public and private security partnership is very important. The dialogue around security solutions in the country should focus not just on terrorist attacks but should include everyday security concerns of the common man and security of our critical infrastructure. G4S as a company is contributing towards providing comprehensive security solutions and looks forward to successful public private partnership with the government”.
“On the global front, G4S provides the first round of security to the Pentagon. We also secure some of the high-risk airports and critical infrastructure across the world. We understand the importance of Public Private Partnership (PPP) especially in areas as important as safety and security. Therefore, it is indeed possible to have this Public Private Partnership towards homeland security.” He added.
‘National Emergency Management’, ‘Procurement Policy for Security Equipments’, ‘Improvised Explosives Devices Challenges & Solutions’, ‘Smart City Policing’ and ‘Public Private Partnership in Homeland Security’, Airport Security & UAV Policy’, Forensic Science Training & Development’, Digital Security, Emerging Threats & Solutions’ and ‘Border Area Management were some of the topics discussed at the two day conference.
