The Eurotunnel project between France and the UK has emerged as one of the first non-airport border control applications for facial authentication systems in Europe. Such applications are projected to spur the demand for facial authentication systems in other European countries over the coming years.
According to 6wresearch, the European facial authentication systems market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 11.2% during 2019-25. Europe is an advanced market for facial authentication systems but the GDPR rules (General Data Protection Regulations) could be a major restraint in future for such systems, especially in the law enforcement area. However, its usage in other areas is widely accepted.
The analysts say that Europe is the third largest revenue generating region in global facial authentication systems market. In Europe, countries such as Germany, France and Russia are the key contributors to the overall growth of the European facial authentication systems market in 2018.
According to Kanchan Negi, Senior Research Analyst, Research and Consulting, 6wresearch,” Russia is emerging as a key growing country in the European facial authentication systems market, owing to increasing security & IT spending by the government. Also, the FIFA World Cup 2018 contributed heavily to the facial authentication systems market in Russia and deployment of facial recognition technology in several airports in the country. Integration with CCTV cameras around Moscow city would further boost the market for such systems in Russia.”
Mansi Bisht, Research Associate, Research and Consulting, 6wresearch, also suggests that the commercial and service-based application area would emerge as one of the major applications for facial authentication systems. With upcoming projects such as the FACCESS project 2020, facial authentication systems would be installed across the banking sector for security & surveillance and to prevent identity theft.
