The Egyptian Government, represented by the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Education and Technical Education, has signed an MoU with Siemens, to improve the competitiveness of Egyptian industry, by providing world-class digitisation and automation solutions upskilling Egypt’s industrial workforce. As part of ongoing support to Egypt Vision 2030, industrialisation was identified as a central pillar of the country’s economic transformation strategy.
The MoU was signed on the sideline of the “G20 Investment Summit – German Business and Compact with African Countries” in Berlin, by Eng. Amr Nassar – Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Tarek Shawki, Minister of Education and Technical Education, along with Mr. Joe Kaiser, the CEO of Siemens AG. The MoU seeks to achieve progress in several areas including but not limited to, Industrialisation and Industrial Zones, Automation and Digitalisation, Education and Training, and Energy Saving, Safety Solutions and Environment Protection.
H.E. Eng. Amr Nassar, Minister of Trade and Industry, said: “Egypt has identified industrialisation as a priority sector as part of our Vision 2030 economic development strategy. The Ministry of Trade and Industry is helping lead this effort by working in partnership with industrial manufacturing and digitalisation leaders such as Siemens, who bring advanced technologies and training capabilities. Through this collaboration and its emphasis on digitalisation and automation, we will provide Egyptian companies with new tools to continually raise quality standards of Egyptian manufacturing and give Egyptian workers the skills and training to lead our nation to the industries of the future.”

The agreement identifies specific collaboration in four areas including Automation and Digitalisation. In this sector Siemens and the government will work, not only to increase adoption of automation and digitalisation across Egyptian industry, but also to ensure that these systems operate to global standards. As part of this effort to drive a digital transformation, Siemens will work with the ministry to promote system interconnection, data collection, data transmission, and data analytics, and to leverage Internet of Things (IoT) integration.
Recognising the need to ensure a skilled workforce as part of this industrialization vision, the agreement looks to upgrade existing education and training approaches via factory of the future -ready training assets and more certified industrial training instructors.
Longer term, digitalisation and industry-specific training will be enabled through digital twin software, and connectivity to the Siemens Mindsphere platform for cloud computing, data analytics, smart data, and cyber security.
