Travelers at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport will now be able to get through security in a new high-tech way. CLEAR, a company that uses biometric scanning technology to verify identity with just the tap of a finger or blink of an eye, is available to member passengers before they move to the physical security screening area.
CLEAR has more than 3 million members who pay a monthly fee to use the technology at airports and sports stadiums. Cleveland Hopkins is the 42nd location and 28th airport in the company’s national network. Travelers are able to skip the line that leads to airport security. The technology uses fingerprints and iris image scans to confirm identity. Then, members can head straight to the security metal detectors and bag scanners without waiting.
The airport will have dedicated CLEAR lanes for travel members who will be able to scan either their fingerprint or eye and their boarding pass. Travelers are then able to go to the front of the security screening line. “CLEAR is committed to making travel easier, safer and more enjoyable for Clevelanders, and for anyone who chooses to visit America’s North Coast,” Gina Bruzzichesi, CLEAR’s SVP of operations said in a statement. “Cleveland is a great city and an important market for CLEAR, and we’re thrilled to bring new jobs to the region that can also help improve the overall travel experience.” The airport won’t be the only spot where CLEAR will be seen. In July, the company is offering its technology at Progressive Field during the 2019 All Star Week through its partnership with Major League Baseball.
Clear membership is $15 per month with the option to add an additional family member for $50 per year. Members can also bring their children under 18 with them through the CLEAR lane for free. After a one-time enrollment, members can begin using CLEAR immediately, according to the company. The technology is certified as Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology by the Department of Homeland Security
