Bangladeshi start-up company has developed a system to reveal the face of a person wearing a mask from CCTV camera feed, to efficiently manage the surveillance of infected or identified people with Covid-19. Sigmind.ai, a local artificial intelligence start-up came up with the surveillance system, according to a press release.
The security system, WATCHCAM Mass Surveillance System, can recognize and send alerts to the users if an infected person’s face is registered in its database. As many people are wearing masks to keep themselves safe from the infection of coronavirus, identifying them by using CCTV footage has also become quite impossible. This autonomous service can come handy for security personnel as it also provides contact tracing and history of an infected person from the video footage, according to the press release.
Sigmind.ai CEO Abu Anas Shuvom said: “We had been working on developing a system that can reveal masked faces since last year to provide support for ATMs of different branches. Now, we have just found another usability of this feature.
“Our system can recognize a mask wearing face with 87.3% accuracy while in case of a person not wearing masks, we can detect and recognize people with 99.4% accuracy. Also, we can determine the sex and dress colour of a person from the video feed,” he added.
Sigmind.ai Managing Director Tanvir Tabassum was also talking about the unprecedented scenario of Covid-19 pandemic and how they were thinking of extending their help during the crisis.
He said: “A lot of our time and resources are wasted to manually track down infected people. Meanwhile, people being unaware of the gravity of the situation, jeopardize their surroundings. A constant surveillance can lessen the hassle and significantly save our security professionals’ time.” The talented team of Sigmind.ai is working hard on Research and Development & Innovation to bring a change in the society with their cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence technology said Riyadh Hossain, director of Sigmind.ai.
