The Royal Bangkok Police have decided to upgrade their existing systems by implementing a state-of-the-art Face Recognition system from iOmniscient. The decision was taken after August 17th this year, when Bangkok was devastated by two bombs that were set off at the Erwan Shrine near the Hyatt Hotel in the city – a very crowded area. Twenty innocent people were killed and 125 were injured. The Royal Thai Police swung into action to catch the culprits involved and at the same decided to upgrade their existing systems.
The Royal Thai Police already had an Oracle database system of Faces of people of interest. The iOomniscient Face Recognition system was the first step in automating the use of that system. They wanted the most advanced system available in the market to support their policing efforts.
Mr. Khunpon Meksup, Head of System Architecture of Songkhla Finishing, the Systems Integrator responsible for implementing the system, said he proposed the iOmniscient system because of its comprehensiveness.
The police are just beginning on their journey towards a fully Automated Response System. As they improve their own understanding of the capabilities of the technology, they are already working on new use cases that they can implement. Having a technology that can meet their growing requirements was very important. Bangkok is a very busy city and it was important to use a system that would work outdoors even in the most crowded environments and iOmniscient met these requirements.
