All pharmacies in Chennai must install CCTV cameras: District Collector

Medical shops in Chennai without CCTV cameras will now face legal action. The Chennai District collector has issued an order making CCTV cameras mandatory for all pharmacies in the district. The stores without CCTV have been given 30 days’ time from March 5, 2024.

Pharmacies found without CCTV after April 5,2024 will face criminal action, said the order.
An order has been issued under section 133 of the Criminal Procedure Act-1973 in Chennai District to all drug shops selling drugs and pills mentioned in Schedule “X” and “H”, “H1” Drugs under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act-1940 and -1945 and dated today (05.03.2024 ) surveillance cameras should be installed within 30 days from the day, Chennai district Collector Rashmi Siddharth Jagade, IAS said in a press release.

In case the dispensaries are not equipped with surveillance cameras during inspection by the concerned officers, appropriate legal action will be taken against the owners of the dispensaries, the district Collector further said.
