Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma, at a recent high level meeting of senior police officers, admitted that three out of four CCTV cameras installed across the city are not in working condition. Kumar revealed that while 50 per cent of the CCTV cameras were not working because of problems with the Electronics Corporation of India Ltd. (ECIL), 25 per cent cameras had become non-functional due to digging of roads and other maintenance works taken up by different agencies in the city.
According to sources, Verma has directed his officers to sort out pending issues with the ECIL on a priority basis and find a solution very soon. Delhi Police has installed more than four thousand cameras across the city to protect the common man in the case of any eventuality. Verma has designated Special CP Operations and Special CP General Administration to look for the reasons for CCTV cameras not working and to find a solution.
