Delhi Police have created three new posts of Senior Special Commissioner of Police, divesting more powers to the three officers. The new posts — Senior Special Commissioners of Police, Law and Order, Administration and Special Unit — will be the topmost three posts in the hierarchy below that of the Commissioner of Police.
Dipak Mishra, presently Special CP (Law and Order) will now hold the post of Senior Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order).
Vimla Mehra will be elevated as Senior Special Commissioner of Police (Administration). She previously held the same charge, albeit with a different name.
Dharmendra Kumar, who will be transferred to Delhi from Mizoram, will be Senior Special Commissioner of Police (Special Unit), said a senior police officer, adding that all three officers have been promoted.
All Special Commissioners of Police will now report to the Senior Special Commissioner concerned, who in turn, will directly report to the Commissioner of Police, the senior officer said. The Senior Special CP (Law and Order) will coordinate the functioning of Operations, Armed Police, Vigilance and Legal Cell and Research departments along with Law and Order department. The Welfare, Estate, Oversight, Headquarters, P&I, Provision and Logistics, and Training departments as well as General Administration department will be coordinated by the Senior Special CP (Administration). The Senior Special CP (Special Unit) will look after Special Cell, Crime, Intelligence, Security and Traffic department-related works.
