From the Editor’s desk: October 2013

Dear Reader,

This month, SECURITY TODAY begins its tenth year of publication! A journey that began out of the burning need to spread awareness of the latest technology and best management practices of the protection industry to end users as well as its own constituents. I feel that SECURITY TODAY and its three year old sister publication SECURITY UPDATE – that reports information specific to security technology to the protection businesses, have come a long way in this endeavour. Today, through these publications collectively, every month we reach out to many thousands of protection professionals, businesses and end users.

As the world goes digital, our revamped portal (www.securitytoday.in) has made a quiet beginning this month to complement the efforts of our print publications and electronically reach out to an immeasurable global community. We expect other protection related publications will follow us in this regard, as we have always led in innovation. Our passion for protection is the driving force that will continue to propel our integrated media team to break new ground. We have also started our twitter feed and a global discussion group ‘SECURITY TODAY’ on our Linkedin page, those interested in participating in our discussions on topics considered “hot” for the Indian security industry are welcome to go online and join this group.

The 16th India International Security Expo 2013 (IISE) that was held in New Delhi last month made a big comeback for IISE and gain over rival event, IFSEC India. In a dampened economic atmosphere the show reported a one hundred percent increase in exhibition space over last year with visitor footfalls too increasing many fold! Apart from the government and police buyers the show was visited by an unprecedented number of electronic security system integrators from all over the country, leaving many exhibitors beaming! (Video footage of comments from some exhibitors and stakeholders may be viewed on our YouTube post at www.securitytoday.in). What does this mean? It means that the Indian security industry is growing to accommodate and sustain more security shows!

SECURITY TODAY participated in this expo and held a mini Knowledge Summit where many interesting aspects concerning our industry were discussed with participation from some leading players of the protection world. We shall bring you an exclusive report on this discussion next month.

Last month, SECURITY TODAY was invited by the British High Commission to do an exclusive interview with the Rt. Hon. Francis Maude, MP and Minister for the Cabinet Office in the UK, who looks after Cyber Security and was visiting India to strengthen a range of initiatives to enhance technology collaboration between technology hubs such as Cambridge and Bangalore. We carry this exclusive interview in this edition.

Since the Indian Rupee seems to have stabilized against the US Dollar, thus improving sentiments of the electronic security systems industry, I leave you with warm greetings for the coming festive season and wish you the very best for all new beginnings.

Till we meet next month,
Cheers & Happy Reading
