Faridabad bans use of LED lights in vehicles

The district police have banned the use of LED lights in vehicles and warned of a strict action against violators. They have also issued a notice to vehicle accessories’ shops not to sell or install such lights from now onwards in the smart city.

Police Commissioner Hanif Qureshi said the decision had been taken in view of the risk of accidents during night. He said a large number of vehicles had been found installed with LED lights, raising the risk of accidents, since such lights reduce the visibility of the driver from the opposite direction. Besides issuing warnings to vehicle owners through media, the SHOs and traffic police personnel have been instructed to take action against the offenders, he said. A drive would be launched soon to challan violators, he said.

The Police Commissioner also announced that the police would soon start another campaign to nail drivers who drove with high beam lights during night.
Welcoming the decision, Road Safety Organisation District Coordinator SK Sharma said this would help in reducing accidents in Faridabad. He said while around 180 persons lost their lives in the district last year, several hundred got injured due to traffic rules’ violation.
